We are now a week into the month of September, and I’m in full-on fall decorating mode. This is the first year I have decorated early. I used to wait until it was warm to do so, but this year I want to share some fall inspiration. Recently, I posted a long lasting fall centerpiece for my dining table. It is a beautiful transition from summer into fall. I am sharing 4 easy fall decorating ideas that you can use in any room to make it beautiful.
Choose 2 to 3 colors to highlight
In the past, I used to scatter orange pumpkins and leaves around my house in preparation for autumn. I never thought to use a new palette to create “fall colors”. A few years ago I decided to try something new. I used 2-3 colors for fall, which were not the traditional ones. This simple idea changed my decorating forever.
I used branches and pumpkins, but they were not bright oranges or reds. I chose colors that suited my decor and my home better. It was a beautiful fall décor in colors I love. I’ve been drawn this year to warm wheat shades mixed with soft browns and blues. This is a departure from last fall when I used mainly whites and soft-greens in the entire house.
I chose colors that were complementary to my furniture and decor but still spoke to the colors of fall. I repurposed several items I already had and added some new fall-inspired pieces in the colors I wanted. Selecting colors that I loved helped me create a cohesive living room. Create a Centerpiece Vignete
Create a centerpiece on a sideboard, table or mantle to showcase your fall palette. The large table behind the sofa in our living room is one of my favorite places to decorate for the season. This area allows me to create an attractive seasonal display that highlights the color palette of my choice.
The idea of creating an oversized vignette may be intimidating, but it is actually quite simple. This vignette was created using some natural wheat elements and the colors that I selected for fall.
This vignette is more interesting because I used different sizes and shapes and created layers of height and depth.
To bring in the colors from the vignette, I placed pillows on the couch that contained the same colors. The warm browns and soft blues are beautiful.
I created a fall-themed coffee table by adding wicker spheres, ceramic spheres and some wheat to a dough bowl.
Color palettes and designs are balanced when you repeat colors and elements in the same room.
As much as I would love to have a different look for my home each season, there isn’t enough space in my house to store all the things I use for only a few weeks each year. My solution is investing in a few basic decor items that I can reuse repeatedly.
Every season, I use the cloches and suitcase on my vignette. By altering the layers on the suitcase and the contents of the cloches, I can change the entire look of the room.
Style Your Dough Bowl for Every Season
The 4 concepts I used to transform my seasonal decor are simple and easy. I hope you will find some ideas for fall decorating that you can use in your own home.
